Lt. Gov. Ramsey appoints lottery stabilization task force

Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey (R-Blountville) today appointed members to the Senate Lottery Stabilization Task Force, which will review current policies and pending legislation to make recommendations with the aim of ensuring long-term viability to the HOPE scholarship program.

The ultimate goal of the task force is to reverse the negative trajectory of the program and not deplete the lottery reserves which allow future students access to the program. The task force is charged with submitting a report by December 1, 2011 which will outline a path to return the program to perpetual viability. The task force will be chaired by Sen. Dolores Gresham (R-Somerville).

“The health of higher education in Tennessee is critical to maintaining and expanding economic growth in Tennessee,” said Lt. Gov. Ramsey. “The HOPE scholarship program’s tradition of providing a leg up to our best and brightest students must be preserved. I’m confident the group we have assembled will be able to build on work already done to ensure that excellence in education continues to be rewarded in Tennessee.”
