Trail Rider director appointed to Doe Mountain Authority

Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey today announced the appointment of Michael Farmer of Kingsport to the Doe Mountain Recreation Authority.

“Michael has all the experience, passion and knowledge necessary to make Doe Mountain a premier destination site for a wide variety of recreational activities,” said Lt. Governor Ramsey. “The preservation of Doe was a shining example that our state need not make a choice between job creation and conservation. We can have both. No one understands this better than Mike Farmer.”

“I look forward to working with to move our vision of Doe Mountain forward and bring jobs to Johnson County in the process,” Ramsey continued.

Mike Farmer is currently on the board of directors of the Mountain Trail Rider Association, a group dedicated to furthering the sport of motorized trail riding. Farmer also serves as one of Tennessee’s state partners on the National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council (NOHVCC), a 501(c)3 organization designed to build recognition and acceptance for OHV recreation.

Farmer has been in the construction materials business for since 1969 and currently works as a sales manager at Automated Building Systems in Johnson City.

The Doe Mountain Recreation Authority was created in 2012. A 15-member management board, the authority is tasked with overseeing proper development of multi-use recreational opportunities on Doe Mountain in partnership with state and local government, the private sector, conservationists, and the local community to preserve the mountain’s unique nature and realize its economic potential.
