Statement: Photo ID law about protection, not suppression
Lt. Governor Ramsey made this statement following a Tennessee judge’s ruling that rejected a challenge to the constitutionality of the state’s voter identification law.
“We have always maintained, over the protests of a small but vocal opposition, that this law is ultimately about protection, not suppression. This ruling merely affirms what we already knew. Tennessee’s voter ID law is necessary, proper and completely constitutional. Our citizens deserve to know that their vote counts and the votes of felons, the deceased, illegal aliens and convicts in prisons do not. This decision is just one more in a series of vindications for photo ID.”
